The Ritualist: a courage Templar Healer Build for PvE

  • by

This is a straightforward build for healing trials in Elder Scrolls online. Templars are the first class I ever healed on— for that they will always have a special place in my heart. They are easy to get set up and easy to heal on. They don’t bring a ton to the group in terms of buffs, but definitely a class worth considering when talking healing!

You should try to have at least one Rojo healer and one courage healer in any given trial. If you’re looking for a RoJo build, check out my warden RoJo build!

One thing I am going to say is this: the healing ultimate from the restoring light skill line is not worth using. A lot of builds suggest it and here’s where I diverge: you can’t use any other skills while channeling it. It’s also purely a heal. One of the healer’s main jobs is buffing up the group— Aggressive Horn is a far superior ulti, in my opinion.

Gear

Typically in trials I’ll run courage on my templar (SPC with Pillager’s). Spell power cure is the default courage set for many healers, since it procs when overhealing. It’s much easier than Olorime’s to keep up. Olorime’s I save for very specific circumstances (ie. kite healing vCR). Olorime’s places a circle when you drop an AoE that provides your courage buff. Group members need to step into the circle that the set casts in order to gain major courage. For this reason, it’s a little trickier to keep up and requires your group members to be aware enough to step into the circle.

Pearls of Ehlnofey is a mythic that gives you ultimate when your magicka is below 50%. This is a worthwhile mythic for the courage healer because Pillager’s Profit (your backbar set) gives ultimate back to group members when you cast your ultimate. This is also why you see war horn on the backbar here.

My typical gear setup is as follows:

Active Skills

Skills can be flexible but below is what I recommend starting with. As always, you can move things around depending on what feels most comfortable to you and what content you’re running.

Morphed SkillUnmorphed Skill LineExplanation
Illustrious HealingGrand HealingRestoration StaffPowerful AoE heal that you should keep up at all times under the group. Buffed by the Grand Rejuvenation Set
Combat PrayerBlessing of protectionRestoration StaffStrong burst heal that also grants your allies minor berserk and minor resolve. I use this as a spammable.
Echoing VigorVigorSupportStrong HoT for your allies and yourself.
Energy OrbNecrotic OrbUndauntedHoT that also allows allies to synergize on it. I send this out every 7 seconds to ensure everyone always has an available synergy.
Hasty PrayerHealing RitualRestoring LightGreat for those moments where you’re stuck and need a big burst heal and need to MOVE. A bit of a crutch but nice to have nonetheless
Reviving BarrierBarrierSupportSomething to use only in moments when things seem to be falling apart. Most of the time, you’ll be running War Horn. Slotted on the front bar for magic recovery with support skills slotted.
Back Bar

Extended RitualCleansing RitualRestoring LightProvides the group with the ‘purify’ synergy. Important in content where DoTs are placed on you during fights that can get cleansed.
Overflowing AltarBlood AltarUndauntedThough at first it looks like this ability damages you, the synergy provides a colossal burst heal to any allies in the area.
Channeled FocusRune FocusRestoring LightIncredibly helpful for increasing your healing done, as well as increasing your magicka recovery.
Elemental BlockadeWall of ElementsDestruction staffWith an ice staff equipped, applies a damage shield and applies minor breach to enemies.
Bone SurgeBone ShieldUndauntedDamage shield that also gives your allies major vitality
Aggressive HornWar HornAssaultThe primary use for this is the major force it applies to you and your allies, which increases critical damage by 20%

Passive Skills

You should have passive skills for all the skill lines you’re using active skills from, as well as the light armor passives and racial passives for whatever race you’re running.

Champion Points

The green tree is completely up to you for your quality of life and game-play. The blue and red trees are where you are going to see the most significant impact on your healing abilities. I will go over the slottables below:

Green TreeBlue TreeRed Tree
Steed’s Blessing Liquid Efficiency Rationer Meticulous DisassemblySwift Renewal Soothing Tide Hope Infusion Enlivening overflow (flex)Rejuvenation Fortified Boundless Vitality  Celerity

Race, Mundus, and Food

Race

Honestly this is the least important aspect of your build. You can mostly heal on any race you like. If you want to go with the meta right now, Breton’s will almost always be top tier due to their racial passives prioritizing magicka recovery and cost reduction of skills. My Templar is an Argonian, though until recently she was a high elf.

Mundus Stone

I will typically use the Ritual mundus stone, since it increases your healing efficacy. Since you want to keep up your Pearls of Ehlnofey, it’s a good idea to pass on the Atronach.

Food

Witchmother’s Potent Brew all the way. If you can’t make or find this, try to look for something that increases max magicka, mag recovery, and max health.
